David T. Engleman, Sr., born Baltimore, MD, succumbed to illness with his wife of almost 70 years at his side on July 28, 2016 in Leesburg, FL; Loving husband of Sarah C. (Cannell); Proud father of the late Sandra Gentilucci, David T. (Tom) II (Chris), Lawrence M. (Julie), Linda “Lindy” (Matt) Beckman; Our dear grandfather (8), great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Dear brother of Earl, Helen, and Audrey.
David moved to Washington, DC at an early age, attended Coolidge High School (Washington DC), before settling in Silver Spring, Maryland; Following his service in the Army during WWII, David enjoyed a long career as an Optician in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD; Member of the Brightwood Masonic Lodge; Life member of the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years on the board of directors. David was a tireless supporter of the fire department, encouraging many young men and women to volunteer. Many of the men and women David worked with in the fire department went on to very successful fire service or related careers, including his two sons.
David “retired” to Florida where he worked part time at Sea World for many years. In his retirement community, David was known for hand-crafting model villages from wine corks, which included detailed interiors; Services: A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Pennbrooke Fairways Activity Center, 501 State Rd 44W, Leesburg Fl. Friday August 5th from 2-4 PM. In acknowledgement of his WW II service, interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
