Silver Spring Fire Department Life Safety Unit and members of the Operations Division were hard at work today installing smoke and CO detectors and Safe Awakes in Engine 701's first due today. It was a beautiful day to be out in the neighborhood doing community outreach.

We found multiple homes with out all the required smoke detectors, or old and outdated inoperable detectors.
Here are some stats:

26 smoke detectors were installed (some homes had ZERO working detectors)

15 Carbon Monoxide detectors installed (most homes had ZERO CO detectors)

1 Safe-Awake device was installed.

The Safe-Awake is a vibrating device for the hearing impaired that alerts when a smoke detector is activated. Numerous fire and home safety awareness packets were handed out, and several residents agreed to home safety inspections. Several people came up to thank us.

Special thanks to Steve, John, Patrick, Robert, Susan, Margaret and Caroline for a well executed operation especially after several of our members spent all night on the ambo at 701 and 716!
